This trail allows you to experience a unique combination of wild natural beauty, turquoise waters, historical heritage, and the tranquility of nature. It’s not just a walk; it’s an opportunity to see a different side of Leros, one that reveals its hidden corners and breathtaking landscapes.

Step-by-Step Route
Starting from Merikia, Lakki
The hike begins near the historic Italian military buildings, remnants of World War II. The trail ascends along the rocky coastline, offering panoramic sea views.
Meeting Agios Spyridon
As you walk, you’ll come across the small chapel of Agios Spyridon, nestled in a gorge beneath the road.
Path to Katsouni
Following the marked trail, you will pass through a small pine forest, located on a narrow strip of land. Here, you will encounter abandoned military structures and circular gun emplacements, providing a breathtaking view of Lakki Bay and the Marina.
The Lighthouse & Agios Efstathios
At Katsouni, you will have the opportunity to visit the lighthouse and the small chapel of Agios Efstathios, the patron saint of hunters.
Ascent to Gerakas
Following the dirt road, turn left towards Gerakas, a route filled with stunning landscapes. After approximately 30 minutes of hiking, you’ll reach a watering trough for animals, a sign that you’re on the right path.
Panagia Monastery & the Crossroads
Continuing along the trail, to the left, you will pass by a motocross track, followed by one of the oldest churches in Leros, Panagia Monastery—a perfect spot to rest and cool down.
Prophet Elias
As you make your way towards Prophet Elias, you might be lucky enough to meet a local shepherd, just as we did, who kindly offered us fresh, warm myzithra cheese!
The Crossroads of Choices
After about 1 km, you will reach a crossroads:
Left: Leads to Agios Petros and the Monastery of Angels
Straight & Right: The path takes you to Fytorio—the largest forest in Leros!
Route to the War Museum & Return
Passing through the lush Fytorio forest, after two houses, turn right onto the dirt road towards the War Museum – Tunnel. The end of the hike brings you to the small chapel of Agios Zacharias, located right next to the War Museum.
