This article focuses on islands that can be reached directly by ferry from Leros. But first, let’s start with your transportation options.

Getting Around

Ferry

The most common and budget-friendly way to travel between islands is by ferry. Several ferry companies operate routes from Leros to neighboring islands. The island has two ports: Lakki, the main port, and Agia Marina, the smaller one.

  • Blue Star Ferry: One of Greece’s leading ferry operators, Blue Star Ferries offers multiple routes to and from Leros. Departures are from Lakki’s main port.
  • Dodekanisos Seaways (Catamaran): Known locally as “the Catamaran,” this faster ferry operates during daylight hours and offers routes to and from Leros. Departures are from Agia Marina port.
  • Leros Express: Besides the well-known options, Leros offers a local ferry service called “Leros Express.” It operates from Agia Marina port.
    • Leros Express timetable can be found here.
  • ANEK Lines: There are also local ferries like ANEK Lines running between Leros and nearby islands. While less frequent, they can be a convenient option for island hopping in the area.

Ferry schedules can vary depending on the season, so it’s essential to check the latest information before planning your trip.

Plane

For a faster and more comfortable travel experience, flying is an option. Leros has a small airport with domestic flights, primarily from Athens International Airport. The flight time from Athens to Leros is approximately 50 minutes. While there are fewer flights in winter, the frequency increases during the summer.
Olympic Air and Sky Express are the two airlines serving Leros. Olympic Air offers more frequent flights throughout the year, while Sky Express provides seasonal service. Sky Express also offers flights to and from Astypalea and Kalymnos. It’s advisable to book flight tickets in advance, especially during the peak season.
