“OXI DAY” COMMEMORATIVE EVENTS – OCTOBER 28, 1940
The Municipality of Leros, in collaboration with the Holy Metropolis, local Authorities, and Organizations, presents the official schedule for the OXI Day celebrations, honoring the National Anniversary of October 28, 1940.
Friday, October 25, 2024
11:00 a.m.
– School presentations on the significance of OXI Day.
– Wreath-laying by student representatives at local monuments.
– Lakki – Xirokampos Region: Monument of Sacred Band Fighters, “Leros” Hotel Square.
– Platanos – Alinda Region: Bust of Apostolos Evangelou, schoolyard of Bellenios High School.
Monday, October 28, 2024
– 9:40 a.m. – Gathering of schools and delegations with flags outside the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Lakki.
-9:45 a.m. – Arrival of officials at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, accompanied by honors from the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Armed Guard of the Leros Garrison.
– 10:00 a.m. – Official Service at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas.
– 10:30 a.m. – Memorial Service and Wreath Laying at the Sacred Band Fighters’ Monument, “Leros” Hotel Square. Commemorative speech by Mr. Spyridon Papadopoulos, Philology Teacher at Leros Vocational High School.
– 11:00 a.m. – Transition to the parade viewing area.
– 11:15 a.m. – Start of the parade in front of officials, from the Monument of the Fallen at the “NT V. Olga” towards the Leros Officers’ Club.
– 12:30 p.m. – End of events.
