As of January 1st, Leros has embraced the new year under the leadership of Timothy Kottakis, our recently elected mayor. He assumed office after a compelling victory in the October 8th elections.
For those unfamiliar with him, Timothy Kottakis is a seasoned pharmacist by profession and has been actively involved in political affairs since his formative years spent in Italy.
This marks his third term as mayor, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record of transformative projects. Examples include the renovation of the historic Lakki Cinema, the establishment of an Indoor Gymnasium in Merikia, and the creation of a modern stadium in Xirokampos. Kottakis has also championed the preservation of the island’s heritage through projects such as the “Tunnel of Merikia” and the illumination of the Castle, both celebrating Leros’s rich history.
Looking ahead, Kottakis is committed to continuing his emphasis on sustainable development. This commitment is evident in projects like Biological Purification, aimed at enhancing environmental practices and promoting tourism on the island.
As Timothy Kottakis takes on his responsibilities for the third time, the residents of Leros express their collective optimism for a future marked by sustained progress and prosperity. Under his leadership, Leros anticipates strengthening the foundations for growth and community well-being.
