Alindia is one of the most historic and significant sporting events in Leros. It began in 1907 during a period when Turkish rule left little room for the development of sports on the island. Nevertheless, three young men, Paris Roussos, Tilemachos Gerasimos, and Kostis Kampouropoulos, decided to change this situation. The youth of the Leros Brotherhood of Egypt, who already had ambitions to promote sports, spearheaded the establishment of the first Alindia.
This event aims not only to strengthen sports on the island but also to bring the community closer together, creating a festive atmosphere that combines the spirit of competition with fun and socialization.
In 2024, Alindia will take place on Sunday, August 4th, at 17:30, at the Belleni Tower in Alinda. The event includes a variety of swimming competitions catering to different age groups.
Organization and Supporters
The event is organized by the Municipality of Leros and co-organized by the Leros Youth Gymnastic Club, the Leros Boat Club, the Lifeguard Association, and the Leros Search & Rescue Team. These organizations work hard to ensure the smooth running of the event and the safety of all participants.
Alindia continues to be a vibrant tradition that combines sports with the cultural heritage of Leros, strengthening community ties and offering unforgettable moments to both young and old.
