Leros proudly and emotionally participated in the official celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the twinning between the towns of Mougins (France), Jedovnice (Czech Republic), and Leros (Greece), as well as the 15th anniversary of twinning with the town of Liegau (Germany). The celebrations took place from May 29 to June 1, 2025, in Aschheim, Bavaria, during four days filled with culture, emotion, and European friendship.
Warm hospitality and a rich program
The event began with a welcome dinner accompanied by traditional Bavarian music, followed by a variety of cultural and social activities: an art exhibition, food stalls with local delicacies, performances, children’s activities, and a festive atmosphere in the central square of Aschheim. On Saturday, interactive encounters with local associations took place, culminating in the impressive official Gala Ball. On Sunday, the celebratory parade, ecumenical service, and farewell event emotionally concluded the festive program.
Presence of the Mayor of Leros and a message of European solidarity
The delegation included the Mayor of Leros, Mr. Timotheos Kottakis, who officially represented the municipality. During the events, there was unanimous agreement that European nations and peoples have a duty to promote solidarity, with the daily struggle for democracy and peace as a central goal—especially in light of recent global challenges.Special honors for Leros. As part of the celebrations, Antonis Ntallaris was especially honored as he was granted the great privilege of signing the Golden Book of the city of Aschheim—an honor bestowed solely upon him among all guests from the twinned towns. He and Artemis have been actively involved in and have supported the partnership since the very beginning, keeping this friendship alive for 25 consecutive years.
Additionally, Ioannis Antartis and Helmut J. Englmann, who signed the first official twinning agreements a quarter of a century ago, were ceremonially named “Honorary Partnership Mayors” in recognition of their long-standing contribution.
