St. Isidorus monastery

St. Isidorus monastery

St. Isidorus Church in Leros is a top attraction steeped in mystery and legend. Built in the 14th century, this small church stands in the middle of Gourna Bay, connected to the land by a narrow strip of concrete and rocks. It was constructed upon ancient ruins, adding to its historical allure. The church’s icon, caught by a poor fisherman in his nets, granted him a wish to restore his missing hand. In gratitude, the fisherman built the church in the sea. Today, St. Isidorus is celebrated as one of Greece’s most beautiful churches, offering stunning sunsets and serving as an intimate venue for weddings and baptisms.
