For over three decades, the Athletic Club of Basketball “Panionios Lerou” has been an integral part of the sports history in Leros and the Dodecanese since its inception in 1993. The club, with its dedicated members and a shared passion for the sport, embarked on its journey in 2002 by actively participating in the local championship’s A category. Over the years, Panionios Lerou has evolved, focusing on nurturing and promoting young talents, particularly those aged 4 to 18, actively participating in developmental championships for the past 15 years.
Vision and Mission:
The essence of Panionios Lerou lies in its commitment to Sports and Olympic values, establishing strong foundations, fostering positive attitudes, and cultivating healthy athlete behavior. The club strives to garner support from the local community, connect with like-minded individuals who share their vision, and promote the overall well-being and personal development of its athletes. The emphasis is on steering them away from harmful habits, ensuring a bright future for all involved.
Board of Directors:
The club’s vision is sustained by the seven-member Board of Directors, comprising both seasoned and new athletes, as well as friends of the club. Their dedication to the original vision of Panionios Lerou ensures a continuous commitment to the development of both the club and its athletes.
Youth Development and Achievements:
Panionios Lerou takes pride in doubling its registered athletes in the past 15 years, spanning seven different age groups. With a rich experience of reaching 4 Final Fours in the youth category and 3 in the children and teenagers’ categories, the club continues to participate actively in various championships, including teenagers (16-18 years old), children (up to 14 years old), young women (13-17 years old), and mini (up to 12 years old).
Outward-Looking Approach:
With an outward-looking approach, Panionios Lerou invites individuals who share common values with the Panionios family to become members of the club. The goal is to expand the club’s reach and garner support from a wider community of like-minded individuals.
Collaboration with Exceptional Coaches:
Recently, the club announced its collaboration with two exceptional coaches, George Hatzidakis and Fotis Grigoropoulos. Beyond their coaching abilities, these coaches are friends with the athletes, eager to share their love and knowledge of basketball with the children of the Academy.
