I am 35 years old, I live in Athens, and I come from Leros, on my mother’s side, Andronikis (Akis) Valsami, daughter of George of Valsami, the first Mayor of Leros after the integration of the Dodecanese in Greece.
I study, research, and collect the recent history of the island, with an emphasis on the events of the Italian Occupation (1912 – 1943) and the events of the Battle of Leros (September – November 1943).
I maintain the Facebook group “The Battle of Leros 1943”, which presents historical topics related to our island and acts as a “meeting place” for historians, collectors, people researching its recent history, and relatives of veterans of people who served on Leros between 1930 – 1943.
