The Leros search and rescue team was established in 2019 with the aim of providing assistance to local authorities, such as the Hospital, EKAV, Port Authority, Police, Associations, and the immigration detention center in times of need, including injuries, shipwrecks, and natural disasters. Through ongoing training of its members and citizens of Leros, the team has acquired the ability to deal with incidents, including the use of automatic external defibrillators during cardiac arrest situations. With 16 automatic external defibrillators, the team can cover a large geographical area, ensuring the safety of both locals and tourists visiting the island. The team actively participates in various events held throughout the year and currently consists of 30 active members, with its numbers constantly increasing.
