Located between Lakki and Agia Marina\, Patela is a ridge that once played a key role in the island’s military defense. If you’re curious about this hidden chapter of Leros\, this is a great way to explore it—with a camera in one hand and a breeze from the Aegean in the air. \nWe begin at the small chapel of Agios Efstratios and walk uphill toward Aerofono. As the road climbs\, so does the sense of stepping into another time—one marked by bunkers\, tunnels\, and silent outposts. \nAt the top\, we explore the old air defense center\, including machine-gun nests\, concrete tunnels\, and a military monument that still stands watch over the island. You’ll also see where radar stations and command centers once operated—now quiet\, but still powerful in presence. \nA short walk brings us to the abandoned barracks nearby\, before we continue to the highest point of Aerofono. This is the moment to pause—here\, the 360° view opens up in every direction. The sea\, the islets\, the horizon. It’s a perfect place for photos—or just to take it all in. \nWe return at an easy pace\, with time to stop for more photos or a short rest along the way. \nThis is a themed\, historical walk with moderate effort—best enjoyed slowly and with curiosity. Wear comfortable shoes\, especially if you’d like to step into the tunnels or explore the ruins. For the best light and views\, aim for late afternoon into sunset.
